Shampooing Hints and Tips
- Wet hair (use cool water if your scalp is greasy as hot water will over stimulate the sebaceous gland).
- Pour a small amount of shampoo (about the size of a ten pence piece) into your palm and rub hands together.
- Spread shampoo through the hair working upwards from forehead and nape then from ears to the centre of your head, you can always work shampoo upwards but it is hard to work it from ends to roots, the dirties area also tends to be around the forehead because of make-up.
- Gently massage shampoo through the hair stimulating your scalp (not to hard if you scalp is greasy).
- If you get lather on the first shampoo you may only need to do one shampoo. If you don't get a lather on the first shampoo don't add more shampoo just re apply as before.
With the following shampoos:
- Revive Repair Shampoo
- Reflex Silver Shampoo (On grey hair only)
- Therapy Dual Active Shampoo
Leave on the hair for between 2-3 minutes on the second shampoo to allow the active ingredients to work.
Conditioning Hints and Tips
There are three main types of conditioners/treatments:
- Protective Conditioners
- Corrective Conditioners/Treatments
- Scalp Treatments
Protective Conditioners
- A protective conditioner should be used every time you shampoo.
- To protect your hair when wet, this is when it is most fragile.
- To de tangle the hair, close the cuticle and return it to an acidic state. This will make the hair look smooth and shiny and feel soft and cosmetically pleasing.
- Protective conditioners would also be applied before sun bathing and left in the hair, but also put a hat on as the sun and sun bed do a lot of damage.
- Always apply a corrective conditioner after sun bathing.
Corrective Conditioners/Treatments
- A corrective conditioner/treatment would be used on normal hair after every 6-8 shampoos and left on the hair for 5 to 15 minutes.
- If hair is severely damaged or porous then more treatments may be required more frequently and left on for longer.
- On chemically treated hair reconditioning is vitally important to maintain condition.
Scalp Treatments
- Scalp treatments would be used in conjunction with the appropriate shampoo and left in the hair so the active ingredients can work.
- To treat dandruff use the products for two to three weeks and then return to using the shampoo and conditioner for your hair type, and only return to the dandruff treatments if and when the problem reoccurred.
- To treat greasy scalps you would use the products when necessary. When applying the shampoo or treatment do not over massage and always use cool water. Over active sebaceous gland tend to be caused by diet, over stimulation of the scalp and age.
